Regulatory environment, domestic exchange access and onshore token activity

Policy statements and enforcement actions by central banking authorities reshaped where and how Chinese market participants could access token markets. Restrictions on domestic exchanges, payment channels and initial coin activities pushed trading into offshore venues and altered liquidity sourcing for tokens with China-aligned projects. These regulatory shifts influenced institutional willingness to custody or integrate token-based services into corporate offerings, as banks, custodians and payment processors reassessed legal exposure. For networks that originated or had major teams in China, that translated into slower onshore adoption and increased reliance on foreign exchanges and custodians. The net effect on token economics included changes in on-chain participation from domestic holders, altered delegation patterns when local entities reduced staking activity, and modified market sentiment due to perceived regulatory risk. That cascading influence from central bank policy substantially changed the operating environment for ONT during key phases of its market lifecycle.
