Tom DeMark
TD Sequential and TD Combo indicators used by Paul Tudor Jones, Steve Cohen, George Soros; New Market Timing Techniques (1994); works with institutional hedge funds to apply proprietary technical indicators.
Tom DeMark began his career as a trader and technical analyst, working with several institutional investors and developing proprietary market timing indicators. His TD Sequential and TD Combo systems are based on counting specific patterns of price bars to identify exhaustion in trends — essentially trying to measure when a trend has run out of energy and a reversal is imminent. The TD Sequential generates "buy setups" and "sell setups" by counting consecutive closes and then additional conditions, providing countdown signals that can alert traders to potential turning points. These indicators achieved wide institutional recognition when they were adopted by several of the most successful macro traders in history: Paul Tudor Jones has acknowledged using DeMark's tools, and they were reportedly used by Steve Cohen at SAC Capital and by George Soros. The endorsement by these legendary traders gave DeMark's work significant credibility. He wrote "New Market Timing Techniques" (1994) and "DeMark Indicators" and has continued to develop and market proprietary technical analysis tools through DeMark Analytics. His indicators are now embedded in Bloomberg and other professional charting platforms.
