Grew Leidos into one of the largest U.S. defense IT and technology companies with $16+ billion in revenue from classified national security, health, and infrastructure programs

Tom Bell has led Leidos Holdings as CEO since 2024, overseeing one of the largest U.S. defense, intelligence, and technology services companies. Leidos was formed from the 2013 split of SAIC (Science Applications International Corporation) and has grown through organic expansion and acquisitions (including the transformative $4.6 billion acquisition of Lockheed Martin's IT business) into a company generating over $16 billion in annual revenue. Leidos operates at the intersection of defense, intelligence, health, and civil markets. Its services include cybersecurity operations (protecting classified networks), artificial intelligence and machine learning applications for defense, large-scale IT systems integration, health IT solutions (including running parts of the VA's electronic health records system), and civil infrastructure management (including airport security systems). A significant portion of Leidos's work is classified, performed under security clearances that create high barriers to competition. The company benefits from structural growth in defense IT spending, as the Department of Defense and intelligence agencies increasingly rely on technology solutions for cybersecurity, data analytics, and AI-enabled operations. Key stock drivers include U.S. defense budget trajectory, classified program wins, contract backlog growth, cybersecurity and AI spending trends, federal health IT modernization, and competition with Booz Allen Hamilton, CACI, and other defense IT contractors.
