Real Estate Investor · Colony Capital

Opportunistic real estate, global real estate investing, distressed property, hospitality PE

Thomas Barrack founded Colony Capital in 1991, building it into a global real estate investment firm with over $40 billion in assets. Colony Capital pioneered opportunistic real estate investing across hotel, healthcare, credit, and infrastructure assets in the US, Europe, and Asia. Barrack has been an influential figure in real estate private equity and served in various government advisory roles. Colony Capital later merged with NorthStar Asset Management Group and NorthStar Realty Finance to form Colony NorthStar before further restructuring. Barrack's early investment career, which included working closely with Robert Bass and learning distressed real estate investing in the early 1990s downturn, gave him the hands-on operational background that informed Colony's opportunistic approach across multiple asset classes and geographies throughout his tenure.
