Terry Duffy

Chairman & CEO of CME Group · CME Group

global

Terry Duffy has served as Chairman and CEO of CME Group Inc., the world's largest and most diversified derivatives marketplace. CME Group operates four major exchanges — Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME), Chicago Board of Trade (CBOT), New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX), and Commodity Exchange (COMEX) — handling over 6 billion contracts annually across six major asset classes: interest rates, equity indices, foreign exchange, energy, metals, and agricultural products. Duffy's rise from the trading floors of the CME to the CEO suite reflects the exchange's transformation from open-outcry pit trading to a global electronic marketplace. Under his leadership, CME Group completed the transformative merger with CBOT (2007) and acquisitions of NYMEX (2008) and NEX Group (2018), creating an unmatched product breadth. The company's crown jewel is its interest rate franchise — Eurodollar/SOFR futures and U.S. Treasury futures — which are the most liquid derivatives contracts in the world. Duffy's strategic decisions revolve around new product innovation (including micro futures for retail traders, event contracts, and cryptocurrency derivatives), international expansion (CME has been growing its non-U.S. trading hours and customer base), technology infrastructure investment, data and analytics revenue growth, and regulatory navigation. His management of CME's near-monopoly position in many benchmark contracts creates extraordinary pricing power and margins that make CME one of the most profitable exchanges globally.
