Steve Schwarzman

Chairman, CEO & Co-founder of Blackstone · Blackstone

global

Steve Schwarzman co-founded Blackstone in 1985 with Pete Peterson and built it into the world's largest alternative asset management firm, crossing the $1 trillion AUM milestone and fundamentally reshaping global capital markets in the process. Blackstone's platform spans private equity, real estate (the world's largest private real estate investor), credit and insurance solutions, hedge fund solutions, and infrastructure — making it the most diversified alternative asset manager. Schwarzman's strategic genius has been recognizing and scaling into major investment themes before competitors: the institutionalization of real estate investing, the growth of private credit, the infrastructure investment boom, and most recently, the AI-driven demand for data centers (Blackstone is the world's largest investor in data center infrastructure). His cultivation of sovereign wealth fund and pension fund relationships has provided Blackstone with reliable capital commitments through market cycles. His key decisions involve data center and AI infrastructure investment, the BREIT and BCRED perpetual capital vehicles, insurance channel growth, international expansion, and succession planning. Schwarzman, now in his late seventies, is increasingly focused on ensuring Blackstone's culture and investment discipline survive the eventual leadership transition.
