Jonathan Nelson founded Providence Equity Partners in Providence, Rhode Island in 1989, building it into one of the preeminent private equity firms focused on media, entertainment, and communications. Providence's investments have included Universal Music Group (in partnership with Vivendi), Univision Communications, Clearwire, Bresnan Communications, Education Management Corporation, and hundreds of other media and telecom businesses.
