Stan Weinstein

Stan Weinstein worked as a financial analyst and market commentator before publishing "Secrets for Profiting in Bull and Bear Markets" in 1988. The book introduced his Stage Analysis framework — dividing every stock and market into four distinct stages based on its relationship to a 30-week moving average: Stage 1 (basing/accumulation), Stage 2 (advancing), Stage 3 (topping/distribution), and Stage 4 (declining). The framework provides traders and investors with a systematic, easy-to-apply method for identifying whether a stock is in a favourable buying stage (Stage 2) or should be avoided or sold (Stage 3 or 4). Weinstein's emphasis on the 30-week moving average as a trend filter — a methodology that remains relevant decades later — reflects his focus on practical, actionable tools that individual investors can apply without sophisticated computing.
