Leads East Africa's largest cement producer through a major ownership change as Holcim exits to Amsons Group

Seddiq Hassani serves as Managing Director of Bamburi Cement, East Africa's largest cement manufacturer with a history spanning over 70 years. The company was founded in 1951 in Mombasa, Kenya, and has been a cornerstone of East African construction. Bamburi operates integrated cement plants in Kenya and Uganda, with annual production capacity exceeding 3 million tonnes. Bamburi Cement is undergoing a transformative ownership transition. Holcim, the Swiss global cement giant that controlled approximately 59% of Bamburi, agreed to sell its stake to Tanzania-based Amsons Group. This change introduces uncertainty about future strategy but also potential for more regionally focused management. The Nairobi Securities Exchange-listed company remains the benchmark cement stock in East Africa. Key stock drivers include Kenyan and Ugandan construction activity, government infrastructure spending (particularly roads, railways, and housing projects), cement pricing dynamics, the Amsons acquisition completion and post-acquisition strategy, energy costs (cement is energy-intensive), and competition from other regional producers. East Africa's young and urbanizing population provides structural demand tailwinds for cement consumption.
