New York metro real estate development, office-to-residential conversion, transit hub development, Long Island real estate, post-pandemic office market
Scott Rechler founded RXR Realty, which has grown into one of the largest real estate developers and owners in the New York metropolitan area, with a portfolio spanning office buildings, residential developments, and mixed-use projects. RXR has been active in transit-oriented development around Long Island Rail Road stations and in converting underperforming commercial buildings to residential or mixed-use properties. Rechler has been an influential voice on New York real estate policy, the future of office space post-pandemic, and the challenges of urban housing supply. He also served as Vice Chairman of the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. RXR's conversion projects — transforming older office buildings in secondary Manhattan locations into residential and life sciences space — have become models for adaptive reuse of commercial real estate as cities grapple with the dual challenges of office vacancy and housing shortage.
