Roelof Botha
Consumer technology investing, Sequoia leadership, founder relationships, YouTube investment
Roelof Botha served as CFO of PayPal before joining Sequoia Capital in 2003. His early investments at Sequoia include YouTube (acquired by Google for $1.65 billion in 2006), Instagram, Tumblr, and others. He became a senior partner and eventually global lead of Sequoia Capital. Botha is known for building strong relationships with founders and for Sequoia's continued dominance in technology venture investing through multiple market cycles. He is one of the most influential voices in the current generation of venture capital. Botha led Sequoia's significant reorganization in 2022, which separated the US/Europe, China, and India/Southeast Asia businesses into independent entities operating under the Sequoia brand, reflecting the increasing complexity of managing a global fund across geographies with diverging regulatory and market conditions.
