Rick Ferri
Index fund investing, asset allocation, low-cost investing, fiduciary advice
Rick Ferri served as a Marine Corps pilot before becoming a financial adviser and founder of Portfolio Solutions, a fee-only investment adviser. He authored "All About Index Funds" (2002), "All About Asset Allocation", and several other books advocating for low-cost, diversified, index-based investing. Ferri is known in the Bogleheads community as one of the most articulate practical voices for evidence-based investing. He transitioned from Portfolio Solutions to an independent practice, continuing to advise on low-cost investment strategies and educating investors through podcasts and writing. His research into the comparative performance of active versus passive management over rolling multi-decade periods consistently demonstrated that survivorship bias and fee drag explain a substantial portion of active fund underperformance relative to index benchmarks. His public writing and podcast appearances have helped make the academic case for passive investing accessible to retail investors who may not have the background to engage with the primary academic literature on market efficiency.
