Preston Feight

CEO of PACCAR · PACCAR

global

Preston Feight became CEO of PACCAR Inc. in July 2021, taking the helm of one of the world's most respected truck manufacturers. PACCAR is the parent company of three iconic heavy-duty truck brands: Kenworth and Peterbilt in North America, and DAF Trucks in Europe. The company also operates PACCAR Financial (one of the largest commercial vehicle finance companies) and PACCAR Parts (a highly profitable aftermarket business), creating a diversified revenue model that smooths the cyclicality inherent in truck manufacturing. Feight's ascent through PACCAR was marked by deep operational experience across the company's divisions, including time at DAF in Europe and Kenworth in North America. His appointment continued PACCAR's tradition of internal leadership development — the company rarely hires executives from outside. Under his leadership, PACCAR has maintained its hallmark financial performance: consistently generating returns on equity exceeding 20% even through industry downturns, and maintaining minimal debt. Feight's key strategic challenge is navigating the commercial vehicle industry's transition to zero-emission powertrains. PACCAR has invested in both battery-electric trucks (the Kenworth T680E and Peterbilt 579EV are in production) and hydrogen fuel cell technology, partnering with Toyota on fuel cell development. However, the transition is constrained by charging infrastructure, battery weight penalties for heavy-duty applications, and customer fleet economics. Feight's decisions on EV/hydrogen technology investment, product cycle timing, manufacturing capacity management, PACCAR Financial growth, and the aftermarket parts business expansion are the key variables for the stock.
