Distressed credit investing, special situations capital, Goldman Sachs credit alumni, Fortress investment platform

Pete Briger is a principal and co-CEO of Fortress Investment Group. Before joining Fortress, he was head of Goldman Sachs Global Special Situations Group, one of the most powerful distressed credit and special situations investing operations on Wall Street. At Fortress, he built and leads the Credit Funds business, which focuses on distressed debt, special situations, real estate debt, and opportunistic credit. Fortress became one of the first alternative investment managers to go public when it listed on the NYSE in 2007. It was later acquired by SoftBank Group. Briger's combination of Goldman special situations expertise and Fortress scale made the credit platform one of the most respected in the industry. His ability to deploy large amounts of opportunistic capital quickly during periods of market stress — as demonstrated during the post-2008 credit dislocation and again in 2020 — has been one of the defining competitive advantages of the Fortress credit platform.
