Pedro Pizarro

President & CEO of Edison International · Edison International

global

Pedro Pizarro has served as President and CEO of Edison International since 2016. Edison is the parent company of Southern California Edison (SCE), one of America's largest electric utilities, serving approximately 15 million people across a 50,000-square-mile service territory in Southern California. A chemical engineer by training who joined Edison in 1999, Pizarro rose through the ranks during a period of increasing operational complexity. Pizarro's leadership has been defined by two concurrent challenges: managing catastrophic wildfire liability risk and executing one of the most ambitious grid modernization programs in the country. California's lengthening wildfire seasons and inverse condemnation legal doctrine — which can hold utilities liable for fire damage even without negligence — created existential risk for Edison. Pizarro responded with billions in grid hardening investments: undergrounding power lines, installing covered conductors, deploying weather stations, and creating real-time fire detection systems. Simultaneously, Pizarro has positioned SCE as a central enabler of California's clean energy transition, investing in grid infrastructure to support rooftop solar, battery storage, and EV charging at massive scale. His decisions on wildfire mitigation spending, rate case outcomes, clean energy capital deployment, and regulatory strategy with the California Public Utilities Commission are the primary drivers of Edison's stock. The 2025 Los Angeles wildfires renewed investor focus on Edison's liability exposure, making wildfire risk the dominant near-term variable.
