Pan Gang has served as chairman of Inner Mongolia Yili Industrial Group since 2002, overseeing its transformation from a regional dairy processor in Hohhot to China's largest and Asia's number-one dairy company by revenue. Under his leadership of over two decades, Yili has built a portfolio spanning liquid milk, ice cream, yogurt, milk powder, infant formula, and cheese — serving hundreds of millions of Chinese consumers through one of the country's most extensive cold-chain distribution networks. Pan Gang's strategic ambition extends far beyond China's borders. He has pushed Yili's international expansion through acquisitions in New Zealand (Westland Co-operative Dairy), Australia, and Southeast Asia, securing access to premium milk sources and building a global R&D network. The company invested heavily in innovation, developing lactose-free products for the lactose-intolerant Asian consumer market and premium organic lines that command higher margins. Yili also served as a key dairy sponsor of the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics. Pan's management of raw milk procurement costs, competitive dynamics with rival Mengniu, product mix upgrades toward premium categories, and international expansion pace are the primary drivers of Yili's stock performance. The structural growth of dairy consumption in China — still well below Western per-capita levels — provides a long runway for growth.
