Nicke Widyawati

President Director of Pertamina / PGN · Perusahaan Gas Negara

global

Nicke Widyawati is the President Director of Pertamina, Indonesia's state-owned oil and gas company, which controls Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN) as a subsidiary. Her appointment in 2018 made her the first woman to lead a major state energy company in Indonesia. PGN operates the nation's most extensive natural gas pipeline network, transmitting and distributing gas to industrial users, power plants, and households across Java, Sumatra, and other islands. Under the Pertamina umbrella, PGN plays a critical role in Indonesia's energy strategy: the government has prioritized natural gas as a transition fuel to reduce reliance on coal and oil for power generation and industrial use. PGN's pipeline network, LNG distribution capabilities, and city gas distribution systems are essential infrastructure for this transition. The company also operates upstream gas assets and LNG regasification terminals. Key variables for PGN's stock include Indonesian gas pricing policy (regulated prices can compress margins), pipeline volume growth as new industrial zones connect to the gas network, government energy policy on coal-to-gas switching, operational efficiency improvements, and the pace of gas infrastructure expansion across Indonesia's geographically dispersed archipelago. Widyawati's management of the Pertamina-PGN integration and her ability to secure favorable gas supply contracts and pricing are central to the investment thesis.
