Mohamed El Kettani is the Chairman and CEO of Attijariwafa Bank, Morocco's largest banking group and one of Africa's most geographically diversified financial institutions. Under El Kettani's long tenure, Attijariwafa expanded from a primarily Moroccan bank into a pan-African financial powerhouse operating in 26 countries across North Africa, West Africa, Central Africa, and Europe. The bank is part of the Al Mada holding company controlled by Morocco's royal family. El Kettani's pan-African expansion strategy has been the defining feature of his leadership. Attijariwafa acquired and built banking operations across francophone Africa — Senegal, Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Congo, Gabon, Tunisia, and others — creating the most extensive African banking network of any Morocco-based institution. This geographic footprint provides exposure to some of the world's fastest-growing banking markets where financial inclusion is still in early stages. His key decisions involve managing the diverse portfolio of African subsidiaries with different regulatory, economic, and competitive environments, digital banking rollout across the network, credit quality management in developing markets, and capital optimization across the group.
