Mike Sievert

President & CEO of T-Mobile US · T-Mobile US

global

Mike Sievert became CEO of T-Mobile US in April 2020, inheriting both the momentum of the "Un-carrier" brand revolution started by John Legere and the massive task of integrating the $26 billion Sprint merger. Sievert, who had served as COO and was Legere's hand-picked successor, executed the Sprint integration with remarkable efficiency — achieving synergies ahead of schedule while maintaining subscriber growth momentum. Under Sievert's leadership, T-Mobile has achieved what seemed impossible a decade ago: becoming the largest U.S. wireless carrier by subscriber count, surpassing both Verizon and AT&T. The company's mid-band 5G network (leveraging Sprint's valuable spectrum holdings) provides the best combination of speed and coverage, consistently winning independent network quality tests. T-Mobile has also launched a successful fixed wireless access (FWA) home broadband service that is disrupting the cable industry by offering 5G home internet as an alternative. Sievert has transitioned T-Mobile from a growth-at-any-cost company to a growth-plus-cash-generation machine, with free cash flow exceeding $16 billion annually and supporting a massive share buyback program. Key stock drivers include postpaid phone net additions (the industry's most important metric), average revenue per user, fixed wireless broadband subscriber growth, operating margin improvement, 5G monetization, and the competitive dynamics with Verizon and AT&T in the increasingly mature U.S. wireless market.
