Financial data infrastructure, capital markets information, climate finance, Bloomberg terminal

Michael Bloomberg was fired from Salomon Brothers in 1981 and used his severance to found Bloomberg LP with the goal of creating a financial data terminal. The Bloomberg terminal became essential infrastructure for virtually every financial institution globally, generating billions in subscription revenue and giving Bloomberg LP the resources to expand into news, analytics, and data services. Bloomberg served as mayor of New York City for three terms. He is also a major philanthropist on climate change, gun control, and public health, and chaired the TCFD (Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures). Bloomberg LP's data business now extends well beyond the terminal to include Bloomberg Intelligence, Bloomberg Law, Bloomberg Tax, and a broad suite of enterprise data solutions serving corporations, law firms, and governments worldwide.
