Jim Anderson

President & CEO of Coherent Corp · Coherent Corp

Leads the photonics powerhouse formed from the II-VI and Coherent merger — making the lasers, optical components, and silicon carbide substrates that enable AI data centers, 5G, and EV power electronics.

Jim Anderson leads Coherent Corp, a diversified photonics and engineered materials company formed through the 2022 merger of II-VI Incorporated and the original Coherent Inc. Anderson, previously a senior executive at AMD and Lattice Semiconductor, was brought in to integrate the combined company and unlock its significant but complex portfolio of photonic technologies. Coherent operates across three segments: Networking (optical transceivers, lasers, and components for data center interconnects and telecom networks — the segment benefiting most from AI infrastructure buildout), Materials (silicon carbide substrates for EV power electronics, and other engineered materials for semiconductor manufacturing), and Lasers (industrial lasers for manufacturing, scientific, and defense applications). The AI theme has been transformative for Coherent: as hyperscale data centers expand to support AI workloads, demand for high-speed optical transceivers (800G and moving to 1.6T) has surged. Coherent's vertically integrated capability — from semiconductor lasers to packaged transceiver modules — positions it as a critical supplier to cloud giants. The silicon carbide business offers another structural growth vector as EV adoption increases demand for SiC power devices. Key stock drivers include AI data center capex, transceiver pricing and volumes, SiC substrate demand, industrial laser market health, merger integration execution, and competitive dynamics with Lumentum, Broadcom, and IntelliLight.
