Mark Mobius

Emerging Markets Fund Manager · Franklin Templeton / Mobius Capital Partners

Global emerging market equities, frontier market investing, corporate governance in developing economies, EM retail fund industry

Mark Mobius earned a PhD from MIT and worked in various Asian markets before joining Templeton in 1987, at the invitation of Sir John Templeton himself. Over more than 30 years, he built Templeton's emerging markets franchise into one of the most recognized brands in global investment management. He was known for extensive travel to meet companies in frontier and developing markets that many other investors considered inaccessible or too risky. His willingness to invest in emerging markets during crises — including the Asian financial crisis, Russian default, and various Latin American crises — demonstrated conviction-based contrarian investing. He founded Mobius Capital Partners in 2018 after leaving Franklin Templeton, focusing on activist value investing in emerging markets. His career almost single-handedly legitimized emerging market equities as an institutional asset class.
