Mark Millett

Chairman & CEO of Steel Dynamics · Steel Dynamics

Built one of America's most profitable steel companies using electric arc furnace (EAF) mini-mill technology — lower cost, lower carbon, and faster than traditional blast furnaces.

Mark Millett serves as Chairman and CEO of Steel Dynamics (STLD), one of America's largest and most profitable steel producers. STLD operates exclusively using electric arc furnace (EAF) technology — recycling scrap steel into new products rather than using traditional blast furnaces that require iron ore and coking coal. This gives STLD structural advantages in cost, flexibility, and environmental footprint. Steel Dynamics produces a range of steel products: flat-rolled (hot-rolled, cold-rolled, coated coils for automotive, construction, and appliances), structural steel and rail (beams, channels, angles for construction), and steel joists and deck (through its fabrication operations). The company also operates one of North America's largest metals recycling operations, which supplies scrap feedstock to its own mills and external customers. The company's newest investment is a state-of-the-art flat-rolled steel mill in Sinton, Texas — one of the most technologically advanced steel mills in the world, strategically located near the Mexican border to serve both U.S. and Mexican markets. EAF steelmaking has a significantly lower carbon footprint than blast furnace steelmaking, positioning STLD favorably for sustainability-conscious customers. Key stock drivers include U.S. steel prices, construction and manufacturing demand, automotive steel demand, scrap steel prices, Sinton mill ramp progress, trade policy (tariffs and import restrictions), and the competitive dynamics with Nucor and U.S. Steel.
