President & CEO of ADP · ADP

global

Maria Black became President and CEO of ADP (Automatic Data Processing) in January 2023, becoming the first female leader in the company's seven-decade history. ADP is the world's largest payroll processing and human capital management (HCM) company, processing paychecks for approximately 1 in 6 US workers and serving over 1 million clients globally with payroll, tax filing, benefits administration, talent management, and HR outsourcing services. ADP's business model is a compounding machine: highly recurring revenue (payroll processing is one of the stickiest enterprise services), float income from holding client payroll funds before disbursement (which benefits enormously from higher interest rates), and a massive data asset that provides unique labor market insights (the ADP National Employment Report is a widely-followed economic indicator). Black's key decisions involve product innovation in the cloud-based HCM platform, pricing strategy, cross-selling and up-selling to the existing client base, international expansion, and managing the interest rate sensitivity of ADP's float income. Her background in client-facing operations positions her to drive deeper client relationships and higher product attach rates.
