Global distressed debt markets, credit investing, emerging market debt, hedge fund industry
Marc Lasry co-founded Avenue Capital Group in 1995 with his sister Sonia Gardner, building it into a global credit and distressed debt manager with over $12 billion in assets at its peak. Avenue focuses on finding mispriced credit opportunities in distressed situations, bankruptcies, and restructurings across North America and Europe. Lasry began his career as a bankruptcy lawyer before pivoting to distressed investing, giving him deep legal and structural knowledge of credit workouts. He co-owned the Milwaukee Bucks NBA franchise from 2014 to 2023, during which the team won the 2021 NBA championship. Avenue has invested in distressed situations in emerging markets including Europe after the 2008 financial crisis, and maintained a strong presence in US corporate distressed debt through multiple credit cycles.
