Luis Henrique Guimarães
Commands Brazil's most ambitious conglomerate — from sugar/ethanol to Raízen (Shell JV), Rumo railroads, Compass natural gas, and a controversial Vale mining stake.
Luis Henrique Guimarães leads Cosan, one of Brazil's most ambitious conglomerates, controlled by founder and Chairman Rubens Ometto Silveira Mello. Cosan's portfolio of businesses spans some of Brazil's most critical infrastructure and energy assets. The crown jewel is Raízen — a 50/50 joint venture with Shell that is one of the world's largest producers of sugarcane ethanol, a major sugar exporter, and one of Brazil's largest fuel distributors (operating Shell-branded fuel stations). Rumo is Brazil's largest railroad operator, transporting agricultural commodities (soybeans, corn, sugar) from Brazil's interior to port terminals. Compass distributes natural gas through Comgás (São Paulo's gas utility). Moove is a leading lubricant company. The most controversial move was Cosan's acquisition of a 4.9% stake in Vale, the world's largest iron ore producer, financed with significant debt. This capital allocation decision has drawn investor scrutiny given Cosan's already complex structure and leverage. Key stock drivers include ethanol and sugar prices, Raízen biofuel expansion, Rumo rail volumes and pricing, natural gas distribution growth, Vale stake value and financing costs, conglomerate discount, and the Brazilian macroeconomic environment (interest rates, real exchange rate, agricultural commodity prices).
