Built China's leading domestic IGBT and SiC power semiconductor company, supplying the critical chips that control power in EVs, industrial drives, and renewable energy systems.
Li Renwei serves as Chairman of StarPower Semiconductor, China's leading domestic manufacturer of IGBT modules and SiC power semiconductor devices. IGBTs are the critical power switches that control and convert electrical energy in high-power applications: EV motor drives (controlling the flow of electricity from battery to motor), solar and wind inverters (converting DC to AC for grid connection), industrial motor drives, high-speed rail traction systems, and HVAC systems. StarPower has emerged as China's champion in power semiconductors — a field historically dominated by European (Infineon, STMicroelectronics) and Japanese (Mitsubishi, Fuji Electric) companies. China's drive for semiconductor self-sufficiency has created strong demand for domestic alternatives, particularly in the EV and renewable energy sectors where Chinese manufacturers prefer local supply chains. The company is also developing SiC (silicon carbide) power devices — next-generation wide-bandgap semiconductors that offer higher efficiency, faster switching, and better thermal performance than traditional silicon IGBTs. SiC devices are increasingly preferred in EV powertrains for their ability to extend driving range. Key stock drivers include Chinese EV production volumes, renewable energy installation rates, industrial automation spending, IGBT pricing and technology competition, SiC product ramp-up, and the broader Chinese semiconductor localization trend.
