The development and implementation of technical solutions for a distributed ledger provided the foundation for the network on which HBAR is traded. The author of the Hashgraph algorithm implemented a unique "gossip about gossip" model and virtual voting, which formed the basis of Hedera consensus. These technical solutions determined the performance of the network, properties of final consistency, and transaction timestamp guarantees. Managing the development of libraries and specifications through Swirlds and patent publication enabled Hedera to utilize ready-made consensus implementations and performance optimizations. Direct contributions include architectural solutions for transaction processing, simplification of the state model, and API creation for smart contracts and token operations, influencing how HBAR is used as a payment and gas token. Technical patches and releases initiated by the algorithm author defined network stability parameters and protocol updates. Solutions for asynchronous interaction implementation, replay attack protection methods, and state storage optimization directly influenced network throughput, fee models, and node engineering requirements, thereby affecting HBARs economic properties in the market.
