Manages POSCO Group's global trading and resource development arm spanning steel products, energy, food, and Myanmar gas fields across 70+ countries
Kim Joo-young leads POSCO International as CEO, managing the global trading and resource development subsidiary of POSCO Holdings. The company functions as a trading house (similar to Japanese sogo shosha in concept but smaller in scale), buying and selling steel products, energy commodities, food products, and other materials across more than 70 countries. POSCO International's most significant non-trading asset is its natural gas production in Myanmar, primarily through the Shwe gas field and pipeline — one of Myanmar's largest natural gas developments. However, since Myanmar's military coup in 2021, these operations have attracted significant ethical scrutiny, as gas revenues are believed to fund the military junta. International pressure and investor ESG concerns have made the Myanmar operations a complex strategic issue. The company has been expanding into new growth areas including LNG trading, grain trading and food infrastructure (particularly in developing markets), and renewable energy project development. Key stock drivers include steel trading margins and volumes, natural gas production and pricing, Myanmar political situation and ESG implications, LNG trading performance, grain and food trading activity, POSCO Holdings' strategic direction for the subsidiary, and the overall health of global commodity markets and trade.
