Olivier Le Peuch

CEO of SLB (Schlumberger) · Schlumberger

global

Olivier Le Peuch has served as CEO of SLB (formerly Schlumberger Limited) since August 2019, leading the world's largest oilfield services company through a period of radical transformation. A French engineer who spent his career at Schlumberger starting from field operations, Le Peuch brought a technology-first mindset and a conviction that the oilfield services industry needed to evolve beyond traditional drilling and completions services. Under Le Peuch's leadership, the company rebranded from Schlumberger to SLB in 2022 — dropping a name that had been synonymous with oil exploration for nearly a century. The rebranding signaled a strategic evolution: while traditional oilfield services remain the core business (reservoir characterization, well construction, production systems), Le Peuch has invested heavily in digital and integration technologies, including the Delfi cognitive E&P platform (cloud-based AI and data analytics for oil field optimization) and the Transition Technologies portfolio (carbon capture, hydrogen, geothermal, and energy storage solutions). SLB operates in over 100 countries and benefits from the structural underinvestment in oil and gas exploration and production that characterized the late 2010s — as production from existing fields naturally declines, operators must invest in new drilling and well technology to maintain output. Le Peuch's decisions on technology investment allocation, international expansion (particularly in the Middle East and offshore markets where activity is growing fastest), digital platform development, M&A strategy, and the pace of new energy diversification are the key variables for the stock.
