Jeffrey Gundlach
Mortgage-backed securities, structured credit, Treasury rate forecasting, DoubleLine institutional platform, fixed income market direction
Jeffrey Gundlach worked at TCW Group for over two decades, rising to become CIO and building its mortgage-backed securities expertise into one of the most respected fixed income franchises in the US. His departure from TCW in 2009 — under contentious circumstances involving both a termination and subsequent litigation — became one of the most dramatic incidents in institutional asset management. He immediately founded DoubleLine Capital, taking significant staff with him, which became one of the fastest-growing new asset management firms in history. DoubleLine attracted over $100 billion in assets within a few years. Gundlach became known as a leading voice on US Treasury rates, particularly his early and correct calls on interest rate direction. He has been vocal on macroeconomic themes including debt sustainability, Federal Reserve policy, and housing market dynamics.
