Global private equity buyouts, European PE market, media and technology investing, Blackstone PE strategy
Joseph Baratta joined Blackstone in 1998 and built much of the firm's private equity operations in Europe, establishing Blackstone as one of the most active buyout firms on the continent. He rose to become Global Head of Private Equity, overseeing a portfolio of investments that included Freescale Semiconductor, Hilton Hotels, SeaWorld, Biomet, and numerous media companies. Baratta was known for his willingness to pursue large, complex global transactions that required cross-border structuring and regulatory navigation. He stepped back from his role as Global Head around 2018-2019, having helped build Blackstone Private Equity into one of the most respected franchises in the industry. His career demonstrated how building a European presence became essential for US PE firms seeking to deploy large amounts of capital.
