Jorge Paulo Lemann

Brazilian Billionaire & PE Investor · 3G Capital

Global consumer goods industry, Brazilian business elite, zero-based budgeting philosophy, beer industry consolidation, fast food consolidation

Jorge Paulo Lemann is a Swiss-Brazilian billionaire who co-founded 3G Capital with Marcel Telles and Carlos Alberto Sicupira. Through 3G, he engineered the creation of Anheuser-Busch InBev — the world's largest beer company — by merging Ambev with Interbrew and later acquiring Anheuser-Busch. He partnered with Warren Buffett to acquire Heinz in 2013 and then merged it with Kraft in 2015 to create Kraft Heinz. He also backed the acquisition of Burger King and later Tim Hortons to create Restaurant Brands International. 3G Capital became famous for its zero-based budgeting methodology — starting every year's budget from zero and justifying all costs from scratch — which led to dramatic cost reductions. Lemann was also co-founder of Garantia investment bank in Brazil, the training ground for 3G's culture.
