John Taylor

Currency Fund Manager · FX Concepts

Currency hedge funds, systematic FX trading, foreign exchange markets

John Taylor founded FX Concepts in 1981 and built it into the world's largest currency-only hedge fund with over $14 billion in assets under management at its peak. The firm pioneered systematic, model-driven approaches to foreign exchange trading, applying cycle analysis and technical signals to currency pairs across developed and emerging markets. FX Concepts closed in 2013 amid industry headwinds, but Taylor's work established the blueprint for institutional systematic currency trading. He remains an influential voice on FX market structure and currency cycles. His contributions to systematic currency trading — combining cycle analysis, technical momentum, and fundamental valuation signals in a rules-based framework — laid the groundwork for the quantitative currency trading strategies that became standard practice at multi-strategy hedge funds and systematic macro managers in the decades following FX Concepts' founding.
