Joe Nolan has served as Chairman, President, and CEO of Eversource Energy since 2021. Eversource is New England's largest energy delivery company, operating regulated electric distribution in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire, natural gas distribution in Connecticut and Massachusetts, and water distribution in Connecticut. The company serves approximately 4 million customers across the three states. Nolan's tenure has been significantly impacted by Eversource's costly foray into offshore wind development. The company invested in three offshore wind projects — Revolution Wind, South Fork Wind, and Sunrise Wind — partnering with Ørsted. As construction costs surged and power purchase agreements became uneconomic, Eversource took multi-billion-dollar impairment charges and ultimately decided to sell its entire offshore wind portfolio, exiting the generation business to refocus on regulated distribution. Beyond the wind debacle, Nolan's priorities include investing in grid modernization to handle distributed energy resources (rooftop solar, battery storage, EV charging), improving storm resilience in a region increasingly affected by severe weather events, managing rate cases across three states, and growing the regulated asset base through transmission and distribution investment. His ability to execute the offshore wind exit at reasonable terms, restore investor confidence, and deliver steady regulated utility growth are the primary stock drivers.
