James Lee (jl777)

Founder; lead protocol developer · Komodo Platform (founder)

Designed core protocol components, dPoW and atomic swap engine

Led initial protocol design and authored the majority of Komodo's early codebase, establishing the project's technical identity. Responsibilities included designing and implementing the atomic swap engine (originally BarterDEX), the Komodo chain architecture, and the delayed Proof of Work (dPoW) notarization mechanism that anchors Komodo blocks to Bitcoin to enhance security. These concrete technical deliverables determined how KMD was issued, secured and used within cross-chain atomic swaps. Directed the launch process, coordinated the initial distribution and bootstrap of notary nodes, and managed upstream merges and upgrades across Komodo forks. Hands-on contributions to wallet, daemon and exchange integration code enabled third-party services to list and handle KMD, directly affecting liquidity and utility. Published technical specifications and released code repositories that other developers adopted and forked. Maintained public development repositories and participated in debugging, hard-fork coordination and protocol parameter choices that altered token economics (reward schedules, difficulty rules and notary behaviors). Technical decisions on consensus, network messaging and cross-chain proof formats had measurable downstream effects on node operators, exchanges and market participants. These documented engineering actions are the primary basis for direct influence on KMD's protocol and market behavior.
