Jeff Sprecher
Exchange consolidation, energy markets, NYSE acquisition, CDS clearing, mortgage technology
Jeff Sprecher founded Intercontinental Exchange in 2000 as an electronic energy trading platform. He grew it aggressively through acquisitions including the International Petroleum Exchange (London), NYSE Euronext (2013 for $8.2 billion), ICE Clear Credit, and Mortgage Technology platforms. ICE grew from a startup to one of the world's largest financial market infrastructure companies. Sprecher has been one of the most visionary and acquisitive exchange operators in history, consistently identifying market structure opportunities and executing deals at scale. His acquisition of Ellie Mae and the expansion into mortgage technology reflects a strategy to capture data and workflow across the entire lifecycle of financial transactions, diversifying ICE beyond exchange trading into data services that generate recurring subscription revenue.
