Jeff Currie

Commodities Research Chief · Goldman Sachs (formerly) / Carlyle Group

Commodity market research, oil price forecasting, metals and agricultural commodity outlooks, institutional commodity investing

Jeff Currie spent nearly two decades as Global Head of Commodities Research at Goldman Sachs, becoming one of the most influential commodity market analysts on Wall Street. He developed the "BRIC commodities supercycle" thesis in the early 2000s, arguing that the industrialization of China, India, Brazil, and Russia would drive sustained demand for raw materials. While the thesis proved correct in the 2000s, it faced headwinds in the 2010s. Currie's team at Goldman produced the most closely watched commodity market research on Wall Street, with his oil price forecasts moving markets when published. He rejoined industry in 2023 at Carlyle Group to develop commodity strategies. His career demonstrated the power of commodity research as a market-moving institution when backed by Goldman's global distribution network and client relationships.
