Daniel Benton

Technology Hedge Fund Manager · Andor Capital Management

Technology sector long/short equity, Tiger Management alumni, internet company investing, technology growth company analysis

Daniel Benton was a Tiger Cub — a protégé of Julian Robertson at Tiger Management — where he focused on technology sector investing. He founded Andor Capital Management in 2001, launching what became one of the early dedicated technology-focused hedge funds. Andor focused on long/short equity in technology companies, with particular expertise in internet businesses and technology infrastructure. He wound down the fund in 2013 to manage his own capital. His career at Tiger Management during the dot-com era and subsequently running Andor gave him deep expertise in valuing technology companies at various stages of the cycle, from the exuberance of the late 1990s through the bust and recovery. Benton's decision to wind down Andor and manage his own capital rather than continue growing outside assets under management reflected a broader trend among successful hedge fund managers who preferred portfolio management purity over the administrative demands of running a large institutional fund.
