Jason Liberty

President & CEO of Royal Caribbean Group · Royal Caribbean Group

global

Jason Liberty became President and CEO of Royal Caribbean Group in January 2022, having served as CFO during the company's darkest chapter — the COVID-19 pandemic that shut down the global cruise industry entirely for over a year. As CFO, Liberty was instrumental in securing the emergency financing that kept Royal Caribbean solvent when revenue dropped to literally zero. Royal Caribbean Group operates three cruise brands: Royal Caribbean International (the largest), Celebrity Cruises (premium), and Silversea (ultra-luxury). The company's fleet includes some of the world's most innovative cruise ships, culminating in the Icon of the Seas (debuted in January 2024), the largest cruise ship ever built at approximately 250,000 gross tons with capacity for over 7,600 guests. Under Liberty's leadership, Royal Caribbean has achieved a remarkable recovery: record revenues exceeding $16 billion, record adjusted EBITDA, and yield performance consistently exceeding 2019 pre-COVID levels. The company has benefited from a structural shift in consumer spending toward experiences over goods, and the cruise industry's relatively young customer demographic (increasingly attracting millennials and younger families). Key stock drivers include booking curve trends, onboard revenue per passenger, fuel costs, fleet expansion and capital expenditure, debt reduction from the pandemic borrowing, and the competitive dynamics within the cruise industry against Carnival and Norwegian.
