Jan Dehn
EM fixed income, EM bonds as asset class, capital flow analysis, external debt
Jan Dehn spent many years as head of research at Ashmore Group, one of the largest dedicated emerging market fixed income managers globally. His prolific research publications on EM bonds, capital flows, and investor behavior helped shape how institutional investors understand and access the EM debt asset class. Dehn argued that EM bonds were systematically underowned by institutional investors relative to their risk-return characteristics and that structural biases in financial reporting created systematic mispricing. He later moved to Argo Group. His quantitative analysis of EM sovereign credit spreads relative to fundamental fiscal and balance-of-payments metrics provided institutional fixed income investors with a disciplined framework for identifying value in the EM bond universe across different phases of the global credit cycle.
