Jack Schwager studied economics at Brooklyn College and earned a master's degree from Brown University. He worked as director of futures research at Smith Barney and Prudential-Bache, accumulating deep expertise in commodity markets, options, and technical analysis. Frustrated that no book existed telling the stories of the most successful traders in their own voices, he began interviewing legendary figures including Michael Marcus, Ed Seykota, Paul Tudor Jones, Richard Dennis, and Bruce Kovner. "Market Wizards" (1989) compiled these conversations and became an immediate bestseller — one of the most widely read books in the history of investment publishing, eventually selling millions of copies. The book revealed the common themes among exceptional traders: discipline, risk management, the importance of following one's own system, and the psychological demands of trading at a high level. Schwager has since published seven more volumes in the series, interviewing successive generations of elite traders including Jim Rogers, Marty Schwartz, Steve Clark, Colm O'Shea, and Scott Ramsey. The Market Wizards books are widely considered the most valuable oral history of professional trading ever compiled. Schwager co-founded Fund Seeder, an online platform designed to identify undiscovered trading talent by analysing the track records of thousands of independent traders. His technical analysis texts "A Complete Guide to the Futures Markets" and "Fundamental Analysis" are also widely used in the industry.
