Jack Dorsey
Mobile payments, fintech infrastructure, Bitcoin advocacy, small business finance
Jack Dorsey co-founded Twitter and then founded Square in 2009 to solve the problem of small businesses being unable to accept credit cards. The Square card reader — a small dongle plugging into a smartphone — transformed payments for millions of merchants. Square expanded into Cash App, business banking, and Bitcoin infrastructure. Dorsey became a vocal Bitcoin maximalist, using Block's resources to advance Bitcoin development. He left Twitter's board to focus on Block. Block manages billions in payments transactions and Cash App has tens of millions of users. Block's TBD division has focused on building open infrastructure for decentralized financial services using Bitcoin and the Lightning Network, reflecting Dorsey's conviction that permissionless financial infrastructure is more important than any single application built on top of it.
