Jack Dorsey

Entrepreneur & Bitcoin Advocate · Block Inc. (formerly Square)

Mobile payments, Bitcoin adoption, decentralized finance philosophy, Square/Cash App ecosystem, corporate Bitcoin treasury adoption

Jack Dorsey co-founded Twitter in 2006 and founded Square in 2009 (later rebranded as Block). Square began as a mobile payment reader for small businesses and expanded into Cash App, a peer-to-peer payment platform that integrated Bitcoin buying and selling, becoming one of the most accessible Bitcoin on-ramps for US retail users. Block invested $50 million of its corporate treasury into Bitcoin in 2020, one of the first publicly listed companies to do so. Dorsey stepped down from Twitter in 2021 and subsequently sold the company to Elon Musk. He is an outspoken Bitcoin maximalist who believes Bitcoin is the most likely candidate for a global decentralized currency, and Block has invested heavily in Bitcoin mining hardware and Lightning Network infrastructure through TBD. His vision for Block extends beyond payments into building foundational decentralized financial infrastructure that operates without intermediaries across borders and currencies.
