ECB monetary policy, European bond markets, inflation targeting, quantitative easing and tightening, financial stability in Europe

Isabel Schnabel is a German economist and professor who joined the ECB Executive Board in January 2020. She holds a professorship at the University of Bonn and is a research fellow at the Centre for Economic Policy Research (CEPR). At the ECB, she oversees market operations and research, and has become one of the most visible communicators of ECB policy. During the inflation surge of 2021-2023, Schnabel emerged as a prominent hawkish voice within the ECB, arguing for decisive action to bring inflation back to target. Her speeches and policy papers are closely monitored by European bond market participants and currency traders. She has written extensively on financial stability, banking crises, and monetary policy transmission, bringing academic rigor to practical central banking communication.
