Ibrahim Yelmenoğlu

CEO of Tüpraş · Tüpraş

Operates Turkey's sole oil refining complex processing 28+ million tonnes annually, supplying virtually all refined petroleum products to a country of 85+ million

Ibrahim Yelmenoğlu leads Tüpraş as CEO, overseeing Turkey's sole major oil refining company. Controlled by Koç Holding (Turkey's largest conglomerate), Tüpraş operates four refineries — in İzmit, İzmir, Kırıkkale, and Batman — with a combined processing capacity of over 28 million tonnes of crude oil per year. The company supplies the vast majority of Turkey's refined petroleum products including gasoline, diesel, jet fuel, and fuel oil. Turkey's position as a bridge between major crude oil producing regions (Middle East, Russia, Caspian) and European consuming markets gives Tüpraş strategic flexibility in crude sourcing. The İzmit and İzmir refineries are located on the coast with deep-water access, enabling efficient import of crude and export of refined products. Tüpraş has invested heavily in upgrading its refineries, particularly the Residuum Upgrade Project at İzmit, which improved the yield of high-value products. As Turkey's sole major refiner, Tüpraş benefits from a structural supply advantage in the domestic market. Key stock drivers include refining crack spreads (the margin between crude oil input cost and refined product prices), Turkish fuel demand and GDP growth, crude oil prices and sourcing costs, refinery utilization rates, Turkish lira exchange rate, regulatory pricing policies, and Mediterranean refining market competition.
