Group CEO of OCBC Bank · OCBC Bank

global

Helen Wong took the helm as Group CEO of Oversea-Chinese Banking Corporation (OCBC) in April 2021, becoming the first woman to lead one of Singapore's three major banks. Before joining OCBC, she spent nearly 30 years at HSBC, where she rose to become CEO of Greater China — managing one of the bank's most strategically important regions. Her deep expertise in Chinese banking, cross-border finance, and wealth management made her an ideal fit for OCBC, which has historically maintained strong ties to Greater China through its founder's roots. Under Wong's leadership, OCBC has accelerated its wealth management strategy, targeting high-net-worth clients across Southeast Asia and Greater China. The bank's wealth management assets under management have grown significantly, aided by its subsidiary Bank of Singapore, a leading private bank in Asia. Wong has also pushed OCBC's digital transformation, launching enhanced mobile banking platforms and expanding digital payment capabilities across ASEAN markets. Wong's tenure has been marked by disciplined capital management — OCBC consistently maintains one of the highest Common Equity Tier 1 (CET1) ratios among global banks, typically above 15%. This capital strength has supported steady dividend increases, making OCBC a favourite among income-focused investors. Her strategic decisions on Greater China exposure, ASEAN expansion pace, interest rate margin management, and sustainability-linked lending are the primary variables driving OCBC's stock performance.
