Hans Vestberg has served as Chairman and CEO of Verizon Communications since 2018, bringing a global telecommunications perspective from his previous role as CEO of Ericsson, the Swedish network equipment giant. Verizon is the largest U.S. wireless carrier by revenue, serving approximately 114 million wireless connections across consumer, business, and IoT segments. The company also operates a significant wireline business including fiber broadband (Fios). Vestberg's strategic vision centers on network quality as a competitive differentiator. Verizon has invested heavily in 5G infrastructure — deploying both mmWave (ultra-high-speed, short-range) and C-band (wide-area) 5G spectrum — positioning its network as the premium choice for consumers and businesses who prioritize reliability and speed. However, T-Mobile's aggressive growth under the Sprint merger has significantly eroded Verizon's historic leadership in U.S. wireless. Vestberg's most consequential recent move was the $20 billion acquisition of Frontier Communications, announced in 2024, which will significantly expand Verizon's fiber-to-the-home footprint. Fiber broadband is seen as a key growth driver as consumers demand faster and more reliable home internet, and as fixed wireless access (5G home internet) competes with traditional cable. Key stock drivers include wireless subscriber additions and churn, average revenue per user (ARPU), 5G monetization, Frontier integration, broadband subscriber growth, capex intensity, and the competitive dynamics with T-Mobile and AT&T.
