CEO Verizon since 2018; former Ericsson CEO (2010-2016); led Verizon's $9.2B acquisition of TracFone; spearheading C-band 5G buildout; $136B revenue company.
Hans Vestberg studied business administration at Uppsala University in Sweden. He joined Ericsson in 1991, advancing through finance and business unit leadership roles. He was appointed Ericsson's President and CEO in 2010, leading the Swedish telecom equipment giant through a period of significant market disruption as Chinese competitors like Huawei gained market share. Ericsson's board replaced him in 2016. He joined Verizon Communications as Chief Technology Officer in 2017 and was named CEO in 2018. At Verizon, Vestberg has focused on 5G network deployment — the C-band spectrum build-out that is transforming Verizon's wireless network capabilities. Verizon is spending billions to deploy 5G networks that will enable new applications in autonomous vehicles, industrial IoT, and enhanced mobile broadband. Vestberg has led Verizon's acquisition strategy, including the $9.2 billion acquisition of TracFone, one of the largest prepaid wireless providers in the US. He has also positioned Verizon as a business-to-business 5G solutions provider alongside its consumer wireless business. Under his leadership Verizon has maintained its position as the leading US wireless carrier by service quality and network reliability.
