Greg Ebel

President & CEO of Enbridge · Enbridge

global

Greg Ebel became President and CEO of Enbridge in 2023, succeeding Al Monaco after the completion of Enbridge's acquisition of Spectra Energy. Enbridge is the world's largest pipeline company, operating the Mainline system that carries approximately 30% of North American crude oil production, along with extensive natural gas transmission and distribution networks. Ebel's most consequential strategic decision was the $14 billion acquisition of three U.S. natural gas distribution utilities from Dominion Energy (East Ohio Gas, Questar Gas, and PSNC Energy), completed in 2024. This deal transformed Enbridge from a primarily pipeline-focused company into North America's largest natural gas utility operator by volume, adding millions of regulated gas customers and significantly increasing the share of predictable, regulated earnings. His strategic vision centers on positioning Enbridge as an essential energy infrastructure platform — crude oil pipelines, natural gas transmission, regulated gas distribution, and renewable power generation — that benefits regardless of the pace of energy transition. Key challenges include managing the Line 5 pipeline dispute with Michigan, navigating pipeline capacity expansion approvals, integrating the acquired gas utilities, and balancing shareholder expectations for dividend growth against the massive capital needs of the business. Enbridge's dividend — one of the most followed in Canadian investing — and distributable cash flow growth are the dominant stock drivers.
